Refuse and Recycling LGV driver
£13.34 per hour
5:30am - 2 00pm *may sometimes work past these times
37.5 hours a week
1. To act as team leader with responsibility for the control of the crew and vehicle. Including appropriate corrective action as and when required so as to best ensure professional and safe service delivery.
2. To undertake appropriate vehicle defect checks, document and report in accordance with training and procedure so as to ensure vehicle to the best of knowledge is ‘legal’ at all times.
3. Undertake dynamic risk assessments as and when required with regards to safe operation of the service. Where required reporting to the Duty Supervisor for authorisation prior to action or where authorisation is not required immediately following action so as to allow timely communications to be undertaken and reduce risk of service failure.
4. To report timely all amendments to round process control to the Duty Supervisor so as to allow their consideration, update of records.
5. With the assistance of a Waste and Street Scene Supervisor undertake the appraisal of crew members. Recognition of performance, targets and skills necessary to deliver effective services through the identification and reporting of training and development needs.
6. Completion of the days work as instructed by Waste and Street Scene Supervisor unless otherwise authorised by management. The role is physically demanding and can include;
Walking briskly for a period up to 4.5 hours and up to 16 miles during shift. Manual handling (lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, manoeuvring) of up to 1000 wheeled bins - 110kg alone, 160+kg as part of team, or/and boxes – 25kg alone daily. Where appropriate, assisting with collections is part of the role.
7. Completion and submittance of prime documents including duty sheets, job sheets, working sheets, defect books, weigh notes, accident/incident/insurance forms and time sheets.
8. Ensure the vehicle is always available for loading when and where required and keeping it in such a condition as to facilitate easy loading.
9. Collection and transportation of materials to disposal locations, tipping as directed.
10. To operate all equipment safely including equipment associated with telematics, vehicle cameras and also undertake any specific training including Driver CPC that may be required.
11. When required, report through recognised procedures; dynamic assessments, littering, fly tipping, damage to receptacles (dog/litter, wheeled bins, boxes), accidents, vehicle defects or any other relevant abnormal circumstances encountered at that time during the working day.
12. Vehicle maintenance and cleaning in accordance with the organisational instructions.
13. To adhere to Safe Working Practices and Policies and undertake any training as required.
Conducting and operating the vehicle in accordance with the relevant legislation, required driver certification, in accordance with the Council’s Health and Safety Policies, Safe working practices and Manufacturer’s Operating Instructions.
14. To demonstrate an acceptance of and commitment to the principles underlying Council’s Equalities and Diversity policy.
- The front-line and customer service nature of the role requires the highest standards of customer care and behaviour to be maintained at all times.
15. Such other duties as may from time to time be allocated to the post holder consistent with the responsibilities of the post.
- Scheduled work must be completed unless otherwise authorised by management. There is a requirement to work overtime some weekends due to bank holidays. Overtime working may be available
