Our client is an award-winning and long-established FMCG food manufacturer based in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

Their recent growth and expansion have created an opportunity for a new Shift Factory Manager to head up their Extrusion department.


About the Role

As a Shift Factory Manager, you will be working alongside 1 other Shift Factory Manager and reporting directly to the Operations Manager. You will be responsible for the extrusion team within the factory and have 12 direct reports including 1 Team Leader & 1 Training co-ordinator.

You will need to have operated in a similar role working to KPI’s e.g.: OEE, Attainment plan, labour variance, Right first time and complaint reduction to name a few.

You will be required to work 48 hours per week on a rotational shift pattern – week of days and week of nights (6am-6pm/6pm-6am).


Your other duties will include:

  •  Ensure efficient production through the correct planning of staffing levels, resources, and availability of materials.
  • To lead the extrusion team in cost reduction and output performance on an hourly, daily and weekly basis.
  • To be responsible for departmental Health and Safety, Food safety, Delivery, Cost & Quality.
  • Responsible for the departmental continuous improvement project, which is a CORE part of your daily job function.
  • Be a lean leader, change leader, and lean culture carrier to help achieve increasing levels of performance.
  • Responsible for developing KPIs to drive a high performing team, understand root cause analysis and being able to implement relevant corrective actions.
  • Be able to mentor, coach and teach team members on the necessary skills to do the job and create opportunities for team members via regular appraisals.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the highest level of quality is maintained throughout the production process, through compliance with relevant Food Safety legislation, standards and requirements.
  • Ensuring that factory assets are consistently run as energy efficiently as possible.
  • Ensuring compliance with production checks, and documenting any changes to process parameters.
  • Championing the training requirements of your team in conjunction with your departmental training coordinator, to ensure a fully competent workforce.

 What do we expect from you?

  •  Exceptional Management and Leadership skills, you will need to have previous management experience ideally within food manufacturing.
  • Experience with conducting appraisals, performance management and managing employee relations issues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills. You will need to be able to work in a methodical and systematic way, and have a particular aptitude for high attention to detail.
  • You will need to be able to work on your own initiative and be open to change.
  • The successful candidate will need to be flexible on working patterns due to the continued growth of the business.
