Graduate Safety, Health and Environment Trainee Stockton-on-Tees, England

Your role objectives as a Graduate SHEQ Trainee include:

          Working closely with the departmental managers to develop the management of safety, health, welfare and environmental issues ensuring they are aware of their obligations and have an understanding of key issues affecting the company.

         Act as the companies Health, Safety and Environmental advisor to ensure that the company discharges it obligations under Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.

         Provide support in development of IT software relating to SHEQ matters.

         Provide input on the functional area to the business strategy, planning and budgeting process.

         Competent, safe and accurate completion of all allocated tasks as required, maintaining the performance of the company.

         To assist in the safe storage and movement of hazardous products during planning with staff and customers.

 Your key accountabilities will include:

  • Provide day-to-day support and services to the companies managers, safety managers and employees.
  • Identify, review and refine the departmental monthly and annual reporting structure and format, ensuring that they are completed in line with the company’s expectations and time scales.
  • To develop and maintain up to date knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, codes of practice and good practice in relation to health, safety, welfare and environmental issues and assist in the identification of any implications for the business and necessary action required by the company.
  • Assist in identifying and the prioritisation of health, safety, welfare and environmental training needs, schemes and initiatives and delivering training accordingly.
  • Identify, act and advise on significant implications of reported accidents, incidents, near misses and trends.
  • Carry out, report and make recommendations on inspections, tests, investigations and audits as established by the company safety and environmental management systems.
  • Maintain an overview of all aspects of safety, health, environmental and quality performance and advise appropriately.
  • Develop project proposals and after approval, plan actions and budgets.
  • Attend, as required, meetings with external regulatory bodies including the Health and Safety Executive, Environmental Agency and Local Authorities at all levels.

To be considered for the role of a Graduate SHEQ Trainee, you must have:

  • A degree in a relevant subject
  • Excellent knowledge in the use of computers and Microsoft packages
  • A keen eye for detail
  • The ability to be able to communicate effectively at all levels
  • The willingness to learn and progress
  • A commercial awareness
  • An understanding of safety, health and environmental in a commercial capacity

Due to the location of the client your own transport is essential.
