Machine Operator Thirsk

Our client is a long established company based in Thirsk. Innovative and dynamic, they are constantly pursuing new ways to improve the services and products they offer. An opportunity has arisen for a Machine Operator to join their team on a temporary to permanent basis.

This is the ideal role for a Machine Operator looking to develop their career with an award-winning company.

As a Machine Operator you will be responsible for allocating steel products from stock and cutting them to customer specifications.

Your duties will include:

  • Receiving stock deliveries with inspection of materials whilst unloading
  • Checking delivery notes against goods received
  • Labelling and putting stock in correct location
  • Picking correct material for sales orders / despatch
  • Assisting with safe loading of materials
  • Understanding and completion of associated paperwork and system transactions
  • Checking stock and relaying information back to the relevant departments
  • Correct handling and usage of tools and equipment
  • Forklift operations to move heavy items
  • Overhead crane operation (training will be provided)
  • Machinery used to saw / cut steel (training will be provided)
  • To maintain work area standards
  • To offer support to colleagues at all levels
  • Responsible for the effective running of machines
  • Working to your own initiative

To be considered for the role of Machine Operator, you must have:

  • Experience of working in an industrial environment
  • Be fit, healthy and able to undertake a physically demanding role
  • Be a team player and able to achieve both individual and team targets
  • Be flexible in working around shifts
  • Appreciation of safe working practices and its importance in the workplace
  • Literacy/Numeracy ability to National Level 2 Standard
  • Willingness to learn and develop
  • Ability to follow instruction and work using own initiative

Although not essential, a Fork Lift Truck (FLT) licence would be beneficial.

The approximate start times for shift we currently have available are:

  • 08:00-17:00 (Mon - Fri)
  • 17:00-00:30 (Mon - Fri)
  • 00:30-08:30 (Mon-Fri)

You will need to be flexible to work longer hours depending on work load and on a shift rota basis, both days and nights. You will be working a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Pay rates are:

  • £8.50-£10.50 per hour.
